What can I expect when I come for my appointment?
Your first appointment will be approximately one and a half hours. A new patient consultation includes a complete health history, and a thorough review of your current condition. We will discuss information about your diet and aspects of your lifestyle which may affect your health, including stress level, exercise, and daily routines.
Your wrist pulse will be taken, and your tongue will be examined. These are two important tools used for diagnosis in Chinese Medicine. Following this, Daniel will determine your TCM diagnosis, and will then discuss prognosis, and best strategies for treatment of your condition.
Follow-up appointments are one hour.
What happens during an acupuncture treatment?
You will rest comfortably with the acupuncture needles in, usually for 20-30 minutes. You may fall asleep, or just relax quietly.
Other therapies and services may include cupping, moxabustion therapy, nutritional advice, and lifestyle recommendations. Herbs and supplements may be recommended according to your needs.
What else do I need to know about my visit?
Have a little food in your stomach when you arrive for a treatment. It’s best not to have acupuncture when you are either too hungry or too full.
You may want to relax for a few minutes after a treatment. The acupuncture needles begin a physiological process that continues after your treatment is finished. In the hours just following your treatment you may feel extremely relaxed, or even a little “spacey”. You may want to sit for a few minutes, sip some tea and maybe have a small bite to eat before going on your way.
To maximize the effect of treatment, avoid vigorous exercise, hot tubs, and drugs or alcohol for several hours after a treatment.
